Into the Fold

Film gives us a rare chance to be “inside” an experience—close enough to feel its poetry without having to suffer its reality. It’s a generous space, one that allows us to take things apart and rebuild them experimentally. The messiness, delays, and unresolved threads of everyday life get distilled into a single line of dialogue or a fleeting glance. For once, we don’t have to worry. We don’t have to wait. Life is already about to happen between this scene and the next. All the usual sources of anxiety are briefly set aside. We get to make an omelette without ever having to crack an egg.
